Polish people, or Poles, are a West Slavic ethnic group and nation who share a common history, culture, the Polish language.
Polish minorities are present in most of Poland’s neighboring countries, mainly as a result of shifting borders, deportations, and migration. In Belarus, there are 287,000 or 3.1% of the population, 183,000 (6.5%) in Lithuania, 37,000 (2%) in Latvia, 144,000 (0.3%) in Ukraine and 22,000 (0.01%) in Russia (chiefly in Kaliningrad oblast).
