While Eurasia is often considered the one geographic continent, Europe and Asia have historically been considered separate continents due to their huge cultural differences. This map shows the conventional geographic border of Europe, which follows from the Ural Mountains of central Russia, down the Ural River in Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, the Caucasus Mountains across Azerbaijan and Georgia, the Black Sea, and the Turkish Straits (Bosphorus and Dardanelles).
