"Love" in various European languages

I didn't expect so much diversity. Although various cognates with slightly different meanings are shared between many of the languages (as usual), there aren't many with the exact meaning of "love", at least when compared to other similar abstract concepts.

Many of the etymologies were hard to find. I eventually gave up when I came to the less spoken languages of Caucasus and Russia, although they left me intrigued.

Some languages distinguish between romantic love and the general feeling of affection. I tried to go with the latter term in those cases.

There are alternative etymologies suggested for several words. Latin "amor" might be derived from Proto-Indo-European *h₂emh₃- ‎("to seize"). Finnish "rakkaus" might be derived from Proto-Slavic *dorgъ, making it a possible cognate to Romanian "dragoste". It is also proposed that Basque "maitasuna" is a loan from Proto-Celtic *mati- ("good").
