Share of the population able to understand regional languages in France

This map shows the percentage of people who say they understand their regional language well or fairly well in selected areas of France, based on an Ifop survey conducted in July 2025.

The data comes from a total of 2,000 people from seven regional samples, each representing residents aged 18 and over. These regional surveys covered Alsace, Moselle, Corsica, Northern Catalonia, the Basque Country, Brittany, Savoie, and the Occitan-speaking area.
