In 2025, Eastern Africa added nearly 13 million people in a single year, driven by high birth rates and a very young population. Western Africa follows closely, with more than 10 million added, continuing a long-term demographic boom. Central Africa also sees strong growth, while Northern Africa’s increase is more moderate. Southern Africa stands out as the slowest-growing region, with population gains close to stagnation compared to the rest of the continent. Africa will have the greatest population growth of all the continents and this growth will be driven largely by East and west Africa.
