The Flahaut partition plan of Belgium proposed by France in 1830
added on: 2025-04-17

The Flahaut Partition Plan was a proposal developed in 1830 during the London Conference by French diplomat Charles de Flahaut. It aimed to divide Belgium among neighboring powers instead of recognizing its independence following the Belgian Revolution. The plan was rejected by French ambassador Talleyrand, who opposed granting Britain a foothold on the continent and creating direct borders between France and Prussia.
