Christianity is the dominant religion in Central Africa. It was first introduced by Portuguese explorers and missionaries in the late 15th century but spread widely only in the 19th and early 20th centuries through European colonial missions, particularly under French and Belgian rule.
Catholic and Protestant missionaries established schools, hospitals, and churches, which became key to both religious conversion and education. Today, Christianity shapes much of the region’s culture, politics, and social life.
