This view shows how the presence of mosques is distributed across Europe at the NUTS-3 regional level. Many areas in Western, Southern, and parts of Northern Europe still have functioning mosques, reflecting long-established Muslim communities as well as more recent migration.
In contrast, several regions in Greece and Bulgaria only retain former mosque sites that have been abandoned or repurposed, especially in places where historical Muslim populations once lived but later diminished. The pattern overall reveals a mix of historical legacies, demographic shifts, and modern settlement trends across the continent.
