Mesoamerican Civilizations

simeon.netchev:

This map illustrates the rise and cultural legacy of the major Mesoamerican civilizations, which flourished from around 1500 bce until the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Spanning regions of present-day Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador, these societies developed independently yet shared distinct cultural and technological achievements.

Civilizations such as the Olmec, Maya, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Toltec, and Aztec built monumental cities like Tenochtitlán and Chichén Itzá, pioneered pyramid construction, and advanced systems in mathematics, astronomy, writing, and agriculture. While each culture left a unique imprint, they were interconnected through trade, religious practices, and innovations such as the Mesoamerican calendar and ceremonial architecture, forming a rich and enduring cultural tapestry.
