2018 border realignment Dutch/Belgian Limburg.
The border between Dutch and Belgian Limburg (for this section of the
river) was established in the 1840s as running through the middle of the
Maas. The river changed course in the 1960s but the border did not
change - leaving two portions of Belgium east of the river, and one
portion of The Netherlands to the west. On January 1, 2018 the border
was once again established as running through the middle of the river,
leaving Dutch Limburg with a gain of over 10 hectares!
